How to choose a diamond shape
Shape affects a ring’s look more than almost anything else. Here is what each one tends to do on the hand.
Round
The classic choice, cut for maximum sparkle. It suits nearly every setting.
Oval
Soft like a round but longer, so it can make a finger look slimmer and can look larger for its carat.
Pear
Rounded at one end and pointed at the other. It is distinctive and also lengthens the finger.
Marquise
Long with two points, giving a lot of visual size for its carat. The points are usually protected by the setting.
Princess and cushion
Princess is crisp and square. Cushion is softer, with rounded corners and a vintage feel.
Emerald and radiant
Emerald has long, mirror-like step facets and shows clarity more openly. Radiant has a similar outline with more sparkle.
